Day 1 - Morning session
1. Presentation of the course (all staff)
2. Introduction to fluid flow (Dr. Ivette Rodríguez)
Laminar and turbulent flow
Navier Stokes equations
Boundary conditions
3. Laminar flow simulation (Dr. Ivette Rodríguez)
Mesh generation with ICEM CFD
Steady vs. unsteady problems
Quality control of CFD results

Day 1 - Afternoon session
4- Hands-on session: Laminar OpenFoam simulations (Dr. Josep Bergadà)
Introduction to OpenFoam
Solving your first CFD case
Postprocessing with paraview.
Day 2 - Morning session
5. Fundamentals of finite control volume CFD (Dr. Manel Soria)
Spectroconsistent discretization
Convective and diffusive terms
Pressure gradient and pressure-velocity coupling
6-Code verification. Method of manufactured solutions. (Dr. Manel Soria)
Day 2 - Afternoon session
7. Hands-on session: Running and testing an in-house CFD code (Manel Soria)
Code verification with analytic solutions
Preparing output for post-processing

Day 3 - Morning session
8. Introduction to turbulent flows (Dr. Ivette Rodríguez)

Modelling of turbulent flows: RANS, LES and DNS

9. Turbulent flow simulation with OpenFoam (Dr. Josep Bergadà, Dr. Ivette Rodríguez)
Selection of a suitable turbulence model
Mesh generation
Post-processing
Days 4 and 5 (all staff)
Morning and afternoon sessions will be hands-on, with the support of a professor.
Each student will choose a project, such as:
-Write a spectroconsistent CFD solver (or part of it).
-Set up a simulation of his/her interest and run it.
Examples of applications include aerodynamic flows, heat transfer, solar energy, fluidic actuators, etc.
