Innovation by Design – why some get it and others don’t
By Associate Prof Arlindo Silva, Engineering Product Development (EPD) Singapore University of Technology and Design
Wednesday, May 18, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Conference Room TR5.
It can also be followed in streaming
New products typically account for roughly 30% of company sales, a number which is bound to increase. Time to market is getting shorter as well (400% less over the last 50 years). Nevertheless, only half of these new products reach their target sales and/or are launched on time. What is happening? What separates the winners from the losers? This master class will look into best practices to avoid these issues, actively engaging the audience.
Arlindo Silva is Associate Professor with the Engineering Product Development Pillar at the Singapore University of Technology and Design, has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and more than 30 years of teaching and research experience. His current research interests rest on engineering design, product development, creativity, materials selection methodologies, additive manufacturing in composite structures, cost modelling and management of uncertainty in design. He published over a hundred and fifty papers in journals, conferences and book chapters, more than 50 patents and authored/co-edited five books in engineering related topics. He currently teaches Design-related topics at all levels of higher and executive education, and develops his research between the DesignZ Center, i-Trust, and DManD. He is also the Program Director for the new Master of Engineering in Innovation by Design at SUTD, a member of the Executive Committee of the Design Business Chamber Singapore, and a member of the Manufacturing Standards Committee, under the Enterprise Singapore (ESG) Standards Division.
