This thesis develops a decision-support and optimization framework for aircraft de-icing during snow/ice events. Beyond standard fluid-only practices (1-step / 2-step), it evaluates an innovative hybrid directed process that can combine forced-air bulk removal, infrared bulk heating, targeted finishing (spot treatment), and traditional fluid steps when required. The system recommends, for each aircraft, which actions to apply, in what order, and how to allocate limited resources (trucks, operators, bays), aiming to reduce fluid use, delays, and repeat treatments under conservative operational constraints. A macro-level operational model is used to test and compare strategies under peak-demand winter conditions, focusing on practical deployable logic rather than detailed physics (no CFD).
Objectius:
- Design an operational planning framework for aircraft de-icing and anti-icing processes.
- Minimize total de-icing fluid consumption while maintaining safety requirements.
- Reduce operational delays associated with de-icing activities.
- Decrease the need for repeat de-icing and anti-icing treatments.
- Incorporate the energy consumption associated with the use of infrared (IR) de-icing systems.
- Balance fluid-based and IR-based de-icing methods within the planning strategy.
- Ensure the planner operates within realistic constraints on resources (equipment, personnel, time).
- Enforce conservative, safety-oriented operational rules and regulatory requirements.
