PROCES INDUSTRIAL IMPRESSIÓ 3D MATERIALS BIOMEDICINADescripció:
Certain materials intended for 3D printing require a syringe-based extrusion system to achieve the desired form. Although Direct Ink Writing (DIW) technology holds promise in various fields—such as physics, engineering, and biology laboratories—its widespread adoption is often limited by the large footprint, proprietary hardware and software, and high cost of commercial systems. This project aims to develop a compact, portable, low-cost, versatile, and high-throughput DIW 3D printer by modifying a commercially available FDM printer. A new syringe-based extrusion system, compatible with standard 3-5 mL syringes, will be designed and integrated. The printer’s hardware and control systems will be adapted accordingly. Finally, the DIW platform will be validated through the printing of various ceramic and hydrogel inks. Day-to-day activities may be carried out in Catalan, Spanish, or English, depending on the participant's preference.
Objectius:
1) To adapt and modify the hardware and control systems of a commercially available FDM 3D printer to support the newly developed DIW extrusion mechanism. 2) To design and develop a syringe-based extrusion system compatible with 3 mL and 5 mL syringes for Direct Ink Writing applications. 3) To validate the performance of the DIW 3D printer by printing a range of ceramic and hydrogel inks, assessing print quality, material compatibility, and system throughput.
Tasques a realitzar / Característiques:
1) Review and analyze existing DIW systems to define technical requirements for the syringe-based extrusion mechanism. 2) Design and develop a custom extrusion system compatible with 3 mL and 5 mL syringes using CAD tools and mechanical components. 3) Select and modify a commercial FDM 3D printer to integrate the new extrusion system, including mechanical adaptations and mounting solutions. 4) Adapt firmware and control systems to support syringe-based extrusion, ensuring accurate motion control and ink deposition. 5) Prepare and characterize ceramic and hydrogel inks suitable for DIW printing, focusing on rheological properties and printability. 6) Validate the complete DIW printer setup by printing test structures, evaluating performance, and refining the system based on results.
