Is it possible to navigate through space just by taking advantage of the pressure of Sun's radiation? Solar sails are an alternative propulsion system that nowadays is capturing the interest of the aerospace community.

Ariadna Farrés has a PhD in Applied Mathematics and has researched on the use of solar sails for missions in the Earth-Sun system. She is currently working at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, as an expert on the impact of solar radiation pressure on orbits around Lagrange points for a couple missions that will revolutionize astronomy: the James Webb Space Telescope and the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope.

At the next online #Women4Space conference, she will explain the benefits of using solar sails on missions at Lagrange points and will give further details about how to calculate the necessary trajectories and manoeuvres and the differences with respect to chemical propulsion.

The event will take place on 21st of September at 06:30 pm (CEST). Don't miss it!
