Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering

Introduction

The bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering offers advanced multidisciplinary training that qualifies graduates for professional practice as technical industrial engineers, in accordance with prevailing legislation (Order CIN/351/2009, of 9 February). The bachelor's degree consists of a first part, which is shared by all bachelor's degrees in industrial engineering, that covers the scientific and technical principles of a range of disciplines (fluid mechanics, thermotechnics, electricity, automation and electronics) that are important and necessary for any engineer, and a second part that provides specific training in mechanics.

This bachelor's degree may be complemented by pursuing a specific pathway leading to a double bachelor's degree, by taking an additional number of credits from one of the other degrees taught at the School. Generally, this involves an additional year of study. To gain admission to a double degree of this kind you must have taken a minimum number of credits on one of the bachelor's degrees. The number of places is limited.

Aims

The bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering produces graduates who have a solid grounding in the design, development and use of machinery, manufacturing processes and mechanical systems. They will have acquired the knowledge needed to analyse, manage, test, calculate, design and maintain machines, industrial installations, hydraulic and heat engines, HVAC systems, industrial structures and constructions and production systems.

Rationale

Graduates of the bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering will be professionals who are able to direct and develop projects the object of which is to construct industrial structures or design and maintain machines and industrial air-conditioning installations. They will also be capable of carrying out functions related to managing, selecting, analysing and optimising materials and properties in the industrial production and manufacturing processes needed for economic and social development.
